Daily Fish Report

September 5, 2010 - One of the things about fishing after a hurricane is you never know what you are going to find.  Unfortunately for us, we did not find much today.  I turned the steering wheel the wrong way this morning. Some boats that went to the south had a good day.  We caught a wahoo, a blackfin and this nice sail for our make-up. Pretty day and hopefully things will get back to normal soon.  Barry

August 12, 2010 - Choppy day for Jack Sanders and his crew.  We went 2 for 5 on wahoos with Jack catching a citation 41 lber.  Weather deteriorated as the day went on, and we finally got chased home a little early by bad thunderstorms.  Thanks for hanging tough guys, and good going on your wahoo Jack!  Barry

August 10, 2010 - Pretty day of dolphin fishing for Mike and his crew.  It took us several schools but we hung with it and caught a limit of mahi.  Good day.  Thanks guys.  Barry

August 7, 2010 - Day 2 for the Gardner Family.  They caught all the meat they wanted on Wednesday, so we marlin fished all day today.  There was not much happening in the fleet today, but we stayed with it and Matt caught a sail at the end.  Patience paid off.  Thanks again for the awesome pics Taylor.

August 4, 2010 - Here is a picture of Nate's sailfish.  Thanks for the picture Taylor!!!

August 4, 2010 - Tim, Taylor, Matt and Nate picked the prettiest day of the week to go offshore.....absolutely beautiful.  And the fishing wasn't bad either.  Started out by catching all the dolphins they wanted, then tried for the blackfins but the current whipped us out on that.  Relocated inshore and Nate caught a sailfish.  Matt caught a wahoo shortly thereafter.  We saw a few more sails but couldn't get lucky.  Enjoyed having you all on the boat.  I'm going to call it a good day.  Barry

August 3, 2010 - Pretty good day for our make-up charter today.  It was a little choppy ride out, but we landed right on a school of bailers.  We caught about 25 then went blackfin tuna fishing.  We got hit once and caught 3.  We worked back inshore and found another school of dolphins, and caught about 25 more.  Turned into a pretty afternoon and ready to do it again tomorrow.  Thanks guys, good crew.  Barry

July 29, 2010 - Jan, Steve, Eric, Fred and Carl had a busy day catching blackfin tunas.  Carl caught a sail right out of the gate and the blackfins bit pretty much all day.  We had a blue marlin on briefly, but it did not last long because he ate one of our blackfin rigs.  Pretty day with a good crew.  Fun fishing.  Barry

July%2029.JPG

July 27, 2010 - Rob Farrow and friends had a beautiful day in the gulf stream.  They wanted to catch enough fish to eat while they were here on vacation.  We bailed dolphins twice and ended up with about 30.  Had a couple of wahoo bites today, but they were luckier than us today.

July%2027.JPG

July 15, 2010 - Today we had Rafe Martin and his boys Riley (8 years old) and Reid (6 years old).  The weatherman said 5-10 knots of wind, but we ended up with 20-30.  We hung in there and went 1 for 3 on sails, and found a small school of dolphins, catching a few for dinner.  Some wahoos were caught today, being the first decent sign we've seen all year.  Enjoyed fishing with you guys.

July%2015.JPG

July 4, 2010 - Wayne and Joy Hawkins and their crew had a beautiful slick calm day in the gulf stream.  EXCELLENT dolphin fishing right now - they don't get much thicker.  The sailfishing is heating up right now too.  We caught a nice one today.  If you want to go fishing, give me a call 252-473-8301.  Barry

July%204.JPG

July 2, 2010 - Bill Virgillio and his crew enjoyed themselves in the gulf stream today.  We picked at the dolphins all morning and caught 50.  After that, we went looking for a sailfish, and caught a cobia instead.  Finished the day with a nice school of dolphins to round us off at our limit.  Really great crew who are giving us another shot tomorrow.

July%202.JPG

June 30, 2010 - Today we took Pat McClain and family and friends out to the gulf stream.  We found a big school of hungry dolphins and it didn't take them long to catch their limit.  We made a couple of laps looking for a sailfish and the crew decided they were ready to go home.  I thought it was a pretty day, but some in the group would argue with me.  I hope you and your family enjoy your vacation and your mahi.  Barry

June%2030.JPG

June 22 & 26, 2010 - I had the pleasure of taking out the Brown family, John, Kristin, Logan, Noah and Ethan, for 2 days of marlin fishing.  I wish I could be telling you we caught billfish both days, but the conditions were not in our favor.  While trolling we did catch some nice gaffer dolphins, and if you're looking for bailers most boats are catching their limit right now.  It's always nice having you all aboard, and we'll get 'em next time.  Barry

June%2026.JPG

June 14, 2010 - I took the day off, and John ran the boat.  As usual, he always finds the fish.  Good catch for his friends from VIMS.

June%2014.JPG

June 13, 2010 - Lewis Mitchell and his crowd had a choppy day, but we hung with it and found a big school of bailers at the end of the day.  Dolphin fishing is great right now.  I have known these guys for a long time.  They used to fish with me when I mated on the Native Son.  Always good to see you guys.

June%2013.JPG

June 12, 2010 - Went fun fishing today with the boss and his friends.  Marlin fished most of the day.  Stopped a couple of times and bailed dolphins.  Really fun crew and it's always nice fishing with John.

PS:  Hannah, what is that on your neck?

June%2012.JPG

June 11, 2010 - Real good dolphin fishing for repeat customers Joe and Erica Ficarrotto and friends.  Fun day.  Glad to have them aboard.

June 8, 2010 -
Great day for our make-up party today.  The guys made short work out of catching a limit of dolphins first thing this morning.  Next we put out our tuna spread and got struck several times, catching 7 nice 50 lb class yellowfins.  Absolutely beautiful day in the gulf stream.  Great crew and we had a lot of fun.  Barry

June%208.JPG

May 30, 2010 - John and Angie from Evolution Custom Coach and their friend Jerry joined us for a day of marlin fishing.  We had several dolphin encounters but they didn't stay on.  Jerry caught a white marlin while John was waiting for the big blue marlin bite.  Unfortunately, it didn't happen today.  If you ever need a custom bus, check out Evolution.  Barry

May%2030.JPG

May 28, 2010 - Today we had George Pent and crew out for a day that started choppy in the morning and calm in the afternoon.  The fish didn't mind the choppy conditions in the a.m., and we landed some nice gaffers and we were attacked by the white marlins, but could only manage to hold onto one.  Enjoyed having these guys on the boat and thanks for hanging in there.  Barry.

May%2028.JPG

May 23, 2010 - Beautiful day for Phil Coblentz and his crew.  Again we had excellent gaffer dolphin fishing.  Got a low pressure northeaster coming, and I sure hope it doesn't mess up this good fishing.  Aaron was on his game this morning - that was fun fishing!

May%2023.JPG

May 22, 2010 - Excellent gaffer dolphin fishing today for Jimmy Stuart and crew, and a nice bonus sailfish, as well as a yellowfin tuna.

May%2022.JPG

May 21, 2010 - We had last year's mate Ty and his buddies out for a beautiful, slick calm day in the gulf stream.  We pretty much marlin fished all day, but still picked away at some nice gaffers.  It was fun fishing with Ty again.  If you want to put dolphin in the freezer, now is the time!!  Barry

May%2021.JPG

May 20, 2010 - Day 2 for Jesse Bailor and his crew.  We caught a bunch of dolphins again today, and added on a white marlin.  Gaffers galore right now, with a few more marlins being seen every day.

May%2020.JPG

May 19, 2010 - Today Jesse Bailor and his crew joined us for a day in the gulf stream.  We had excellent dolphin fishing this morning until a big thunderstorm, complete with wind, lightening and water spouts, chased us inshore. Hooked a 400 lb blue one, but she jumped off.  We spent the afternoon looking for a cobia, but did not have very good conditions.  Jesse and his crew are going again with us tomorrow, and we are hoping the dolphin action picks up right where we left it today.

May%2019.JPG

May 16, 2010 - After another long, choppy ride this morning, the guys from Bumann Construction caught themselves about a dozen dolphins.  We had a shot at a white marlin, but it didn't work out for us.  Sure am hoping the warm water shoves in closer to us soon, it's making for some awful long rides right now.

May%2016.JPG

May 15, 2010 - After a long, choppy ride to the gulf stream this morning, John Fink and his buddies did good on the gaffers.  Cudos to John for catching the first billfish of the season for the Runaway with a nice Sail.  Good bunch of guys and I look forward to seeing you next year.  Barry

May%2015.JPG

May 14, 2010 - Today we had Ron and his 3 sons, Mike, Mark and Dave, out for a beautiful day in the gulf stream. We were not disappointed, as the dolphins finally showed up.  Check out Ron's 43 lber.  We also had a sailfish encounter - we hooked him, but he got away.  It's always a good time when Ron is aboard, and this was the first time in a long while that he had his 3 sons out fishing together.

Should be good dolphin fishing from here on out, so give me a call and book your charter now.  Barry

May%2014%20-%202.JPG

May 10, 2010 - It was a little windy this morning, so we decided to try our hand at sight casting for cobias.  The past couple of days, the cobia bite has been going off.  Today we saw 10, but could only get 3 to eat.  Bud Brown and friends were a great crew.  I'm glad they got some tasty dinner.  Barry

May%2010.JPG

April 10, 2010 - After a slow start this morning yellowfin fishing, we heard of some bluefins to the east of us. After relocating, we found an awesome sight - acres of bluefins rolling on top.  They were hard to get to bite, but Mike Olin and his crew went 4 for 8.  Ricky caught his last bluefin as a bachelor, before he says "I do".Fun bunch of guys and a pretty day.  Barry

April_10_2.JPG

Captain,
Barry, just wanted to thank you again for a great day on the water.  The guys and I enjoyed the whole experience, even our chumming bachelor Ricky with his lack of sea legs had nothing but good things to say (although I don't think I will be able to get him on a boat again).  Thanks again for taking care of us, it was a hell of a good time!
Sincerely,
Michael Olin

April 2, 2010 - Today we had Terry Knox and his crowd out tuna fishing.  The fishing was hit or miss.  We got hit one time, and managed to land 2 nice yellowfins.  There is also some gaffers showing up under floats.  It's shaping up to be a pretty good Spring (I think).

April_2.JPG

April 1, 2010 - After a week in the boatyard, we splashed the Runaway today and brought her back to Hatteras Harbor.  We completed all the yearly maintenance including new bottom paint and we had the wheel reworked. Looking forward to fishing tomorrow.

April_1.JPG

March 25, 2010 - Today we took a group out fishing on the Sea Creature.  We had to go the extra mile, 54 to be exact, to find the bluefins.  We went 3 for 7 and boated a 69 inch, 185 lber.  Breezed up from the southwest and had a long ride home with one of the crew kissing the pavement upon arriving back at the marina.

March 20, 2010 - Today we took a group from Hensel Phelps Construction for a beautiful day of tuna fishing in the gulf stream.  We had good yellowfin fishing in the a.m., but the current shut it off in the afternoon.  Good group of folks - I hope they had fun, I know we did.
